New Year Greetings for 1999
To my friends and colleagues as we
enter this year of transitions, I send you my wishes
for
success, good heath, exciting challenges, and a good measure of happiness
Victory
Victory?
The masculine kind tied to a specific date and born of the individual, of that kind I am in the dark. After all, it is pretty, passing. The kind born of long-continued joint effort by the human race all over the globe, with this kind of victory I like to build a friendship. This genuine victory means creating a space for collaboration and the strength of union. It is just a glimpse of success in our common tasks, such as peace, respect for the rights of others, justice, and teaching our children by authorizing them to love and to create together, by holding hands with their neighbors and traveling companions. True victory is not mine; it is ours. It does not exlclude the diversity, the Other; it welcomes all and binds together.
It does not shout for joy; it whispers satisfaction.
